The wife of a deceased Nigerian actor, Obi Madubuogwu, has spoken out about the last gift her late husband gave her before his tragic passing.

It was a gloomy moment on Tuesday night when wife of late actor, Obi Madubuogwu relived memories of the last moments she had with her husband before he was snatched away by death months back following health complications.
The event was a Service of Songs and candlelight procession in honour of the late actor. It was organized by the burial committee set up by the practitioners in the Nigerian movie industry to give the departed actor a befitting burial rites.
The late actor’s family was among the dignitaries that graced the event, which had who-is-who in Nollywood in attendance.
Indeed, it was a solemn moment as the movie stars dressed in black attires took turns to eulogise the virtues of the actor who was best popular for his role as King Musanga in the 1996 epic film, “Battle of Musanga”, produced by Gabosky and Chezkay Films.
Sharing her experience with HVP, shortly after the event, Obi’s wife, Obianuju described her husband’s death as ‘a rude shock’, adding that “I didn’t see it coming when I rushed him to the hospital on that fateful day.”
But in everything, she continued, “he would always tell me to be strong and strive to be a voice to the voiceless.”
Obianuju, who is a lawyer by profession said, her late husband’s desire is that she continues from where he stopped.
According to her, Obi’s passion for establishing the Saving Lives African Diabetes Foundation in 2009, to raise awareness for diabetes, would always tell her that he wants her to take it to the next level.
“He knew that diabetes is not a death sentence and he wants me to take the message to the world, especially to those living in the rural areas,” she added.
Relieving the last moment of the man with whom she was married for 16 years, and had three beautiful daughters, Obianuju described her late husband as a man of peace.
“He loved to association with people no matter the level. And that’s what he has passed on to me. He wants to continue from where he stopped.
On what she would miss about her late husband, she said she would miss his jokes and his quarreling. She also revealed that the last gift her late husband gave to her was when he bought a bottle of coconut water for her. “ He bought it when he went out after his auditioning.”
Narrating further, she said “while he was alive, there was never a day he didnt take me out for the 16 years I have been married to him. He always buy me Isi Ewu or cat fish, whenever he had money.”
Obianuju, who said she met Obi on her birthday, said she intends to continue from where the late actor stopped.“Definitely, it is not going to be easy. I will be strong. I intend to carry on with his foundation and sustain his legacies. With the support of my family and my friends, I know I would be able to carry the burden,” she said
Meanwhile, the candlelight procession had he likes of Hon. Desmond Elliot, Ebere Okaro, Emma Isikaku, Leo Mezie, Charles Inojie in attendance. Others were Igwe Gabosky Chinedu Ikedize, Fred Amata, Arinze Okonkwo, Benedict Johnson, Ejiro Okurame among other notable actors.
Obi, 47, died on August 28, after battling with diabetes for several years. His remains will be laid to rest at his hometown in Ogidi, Anambra State, Friday, November 10.
